I'm thinking about getting a new pocket knife to suppliment my cold steel ti-litefor every day carry.
What I'm looking for is primarily a cutting knife with an extremely robust, high quality, and sharp blade.
Right now these are the two I'm thinking of, with the SOG as the frontrunner.

So if you've got experience with one of these, or have other suggestions for a good functional knife, I'd like to hear it.
Thanks
Curly

The Kershaw is supposed to have a "better" steel than the SOG's AUS-8. I've got a Kershaw that hasn't failed me yet. I bought mine from here.

I would opt for the Kershaw myself as it will have better steel than the SOG, like Geo said, and thus will hold an edge longer. Typically, any knife that says either "USA", "Sheffield", or "Solingen" on the blade is going to be a good knife. Have you checked out Spyderco or Benchmade knives yet?

I have two folding knives that I continually go back to. One is a CRKT M16-Z and the other a 15 year old Gerber Gator. They have been all the knife I have needed for years.

My Gerber finally took a shit last year when I was trying to cut the pelvic bone on a deer, Marv. It was my fault, I got the blade at a funky angle and snapped the last 1/2" of the blade off. I loved that knife, had it since I began bowhunting at 16y/o, and now the damned things are made in China with their crappy-assed steel. :D

I've looked at knives from both, and Benchmade seem to be more expensive than similar knives from anyone else.
The Spyderco's I've never liked. I know a lot of people swear by them, but they just don't feel good in my hand.
I had a CRKT M16-something that litterally fell apart in my hand while I was using it. The little screws had apparently worked themselves loose, and they all fell out at once, leaving me with the blade attached to the handles only at the pivot. Not doing that again.
I'm going to a gunshop that has lots of knives this weekend, we'll see if I find anything.

I have an SOG Twitch, it is super nice as long as you don't get it dirty (ie carry it in your pocket).
Now it takes two hands to open it.
It is the AR-15 of pocket knives.

Other than it not opening, and not holding an edge very well, it's super!

Get the Kershaw...

I hear ya on the price of the Benchmades. Bought one for a friend for Xmas after he bought me a nice Buck tanto the year before, and I know I got the short end of that deal.

Only Benchmade I ever owned was a butterfly knife I got from Gibraltar Trade back in high school. A few buddies had the cheap, Chinese versions, but I saved my pennies and bought what was a $40 knife at the time. I don't have any idea what ever became of that knife, but I'll bet it'd be worth twice that nowadays.

Geo for the win!
Just ordered a Kershaw Blur with a S30V blade from him for the same price as most places charge for the 13C26 bladed version.

I didn't. I never use Ebay, and I hate Paypal, so I don't keep up on that sort of thing, but I'll keep it in mind for next time.

Had the knife a little over a week now and I really like it. Only thing IMO that would improve it is if they had gone with both the thumb studs and the index finger flipper. I'm rather used to that with my CS Ti-lite, and it seems like it would make a lot of sense on this knife too.
Also, this knife came out of the box wicked sharp.

My Kershaw has thumb studs, but I always use the flipper to open it. It's easier, and I also feel it's safer.

Of course. Did you incorporate it into one of those krav maga routines that I see old people doing in the park?

I carry one of these, camping, hiking or just working around the house and yard. Benchmade Griptillian. $100.00 + but I think it's worth it worth it. Great blade, very sharp and I like the axis locking system.
