Razor Wire / Barb Wire 8 boxes fence
- $1 (Burleson)

Date: 2008-06-03, 8:55PM CDT

We have 8 boxes of razor/ barb wire fence we need to sell. Each box has five rolls just like the one pictured. I'm not sure exactly how many ft are in each roll. Please make a respectable offer.

On eBay similar stuff is $27.80 a coil

This guy on Craigslist has a total of 40 coils.

Any suggestions on what to offer?

Nothing.
Unless your planning your own Micro-Gulag?
My problem with that stuff is that you don't want to make fences outta it if your ever planning on having livestock.
That stuff would eat my goats and horses alive.
I imagine it would be pretty hard on your kids as well...

You could top a chain link fence with it, but why bother?

It's also a royal pain to work with.

- If ya gotta make an offer, try to get it for scrap metal prices. Especially since you don't know how much is on a roll.

I could see putting it on top of a fence around a tool shed on Theduardo's remote property to protect it while he's not there. But other than that, I agree that using it as a fence is not good. Not only would it be very destructive on any livestock or wildlife, but it would call attention to the place. It would make people think he's got a meth lab or something.

I've no idea what it goes for.

You pretty much got it Tobus. Thats the only application I see for that wire. In one area of my property I am planning on putting in at least two shop buildings with fenced yard. Probably 1/4 acre or less. I would then go and plant trumpet creepers and evergreen wisteria on 8' centers around the fence perimeter. That way they would appear to look more like flowering hedgerows than industrial fencing in less than 5 years.

My original idea did not have the razor wire. Because its normally $30 or more for the roll. But this listing got me thinking.

The other application I have is for my residential home in the suburbs. Having 10 rolls tucked away in the attic may not be a bad idea. Crime has been increasing in the suburbs across the US. In a hat of admittedly tin-foil hat crisis, being able to put some razor wire around my existing fence may not be a bad thing.

No way would I use it at ground level. That would be kind of irresponsible.

You're going to need mesh gloves and a special tool to uncoil that stuff. But it's dynamite in SHTF. Makes the place look imposeing, keeps put wild animals and wild people for that matter. It's a bitch to get though.

Conentrina and razor wire slow people down. They don't stop them. I would put it so much around your entire property as much as a zone that you can control yet is out of range of people being able to throw, let's say gas bombs or Molotov cocktails. Out of rifle range, that's asking for too much.

I have worked with this stuff and would not do it again. There may be some easy way to handle the coils and unwind it but three of us spent a day topping a chain link fence around a back up geneartor with that shit and it was 10 times harder to use than the barb wire I've used around pastures.

It's probably also around 10 times scarier looking if you happen to be thinking about trying to climb over it. I suppose the choice between one or the other would depend mostly (aside from the price) on your purposes and how much of a deterrent you really want or need.
